Heather Marie Stewart is an award winning American Mixed-Media Artist, born in Richmond, VA, and currently residing on the Alabama Gulf Coast. She is an Air Force veteran and recently retired with 30 years of Federal service. Some of her artistic proclivities include plaster-cast sculpture, fluid and heavy body acrylics, alcohol inks, polymer clay, beaded jewelry, and silversmithing.

Heather’s art attraction started at a young age. She would read comic books and sketch the superheroes with pencil and paper. These drawings eventually turned colorful as she experimented with colored pencils, brush markers, and acrylic paint. By the time Heather was attending VCU School of the Arts, her medium of choice was plaster-casting, but soon her attention turned to the US Air Force, where she served 10 years active duty. Military service does not lend well to creative time, so it was not until her return to civilian life that she discovered a passion for making beaded jewelry and silversmithing. Since moving to Mobile, AL, Heather has added fluid and heavy texture acrylics to her artistic repertoire, but her main focus has returned to plaster cast sculpture. Visit the beautiful Lupercalia Art Society Gallery & Speakeasy in downtown Mobile, and Monet On The Rocks in Gulfport, MS, to view and purchase her art.

“There is something intriguing about mixing your colors according to a mood or a feeling, and knowing what you want your finished piece to look like, but the mystery of how it may turn out. There is an excitement about waiting for your paint to dry, and a certain addiction to the vibrant fluidity of it all.”    HMS
